As a lead partners of NYMAZ, the North Yorkshire Youth Music Action Zone, working with disadvantaged young people is an important priority.
Thousands of young people have participated in our Community and Education programmes, with support from strategic partners, Leeds Metropolitan University. From DJ-ing to dhol drumming, singing to samba, we bring internationally acclaimed artists to engage with young people in music activities of the highest quality.
Two of our most acclaimed projects are Musical Mums which promotes free singing sessions to teenage mums and babies and Divas and Djs a project which encourages at-risk teenagers to get involved in dance workshops, live bands, MC-ing and DJ-ing – all free of charge.
Divas and DJs
For four years HIF has been delighted to promote Divas & DJs throughout February half term. Offering skills such as Mc-ing, DJ-ing, live music recording, dance and art workshops to up to 150 10 to 18 year olds Divas and DJs has proved a real hit and we can’t wait for next year! Please email info@harrogate-festival.org.uk for further information.
Musical Mums
Musical Mums is another of HIF’s educational outreach projects providing young mums and their babies the opportunity to bond, learn and develop through the use of rhymes, songs, playing instruments and interactive fun. The sessions which are absolutely free run in both Harrogate and Catterick and have proved widely successful. We believe it is never to early to experience the wonders of music and are thrilled the sessions are proving so productive.
If you are interested in joining the sessions – which are entirely free of charge please contact HIF on 01423 562303 or info@harrogate-festival.org.uk
