The Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival

Launched in 2003 the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival has grown into the largest literary crime fiction event of its kind, and has achieved international acclaim for its programming, organisation and Festival atmosphere.

Over 7,000 people including writers, editors, publicists, reviewers, press and aficionados attend the Festival each July. TOPCWF is unique because it is a Festival, not a convention or conference. It is a event for readers and writers; where they can meet, discuss and celebrate the best of the crime fiction genre - past, present and future.

The 2008 Festival

Some of the biggest names in crime fiction including Robert Crais (pictured left), Jeffery Deaver, Tess Gerritsen, Andy McNab and Peter Robinson, along with legions of UK and international crime writing fans, descended on the Crown Hotel, Harrogate over a July weekend to celebrate and share their mutual fascination with the murky depths of detection.

The varied programme put together by 2008 Programming Committee Chair, Simon Kernick, providing thrills, chills and kills in equal measure, was warmly received by an enthustiastic and dedicated audience over the four days of the Festival.

The Festival received extensive press coverage including articles in The Guardian, The Independent, the Daily Telegraph, and The Times as well as widespread online features and commentary, particularly from the Yorkshire Post Online
