This Week- Divas and DJs!

11th - 15th Feb 2008

This half term young people have been taking part in an urban music and dance project in Harrogate.  Working with professional musicians, young people have been trying their hand at DJ-ing, live band recording, MC-ing and computer music technology.  In addition to these activities, there have been street dance sessions and banner artwork workshops that will all contribute to a final gig performance taking place this Friday 15th February at Harroagte High School, 7pm.

Education & Community Programme

The Festival launched its Education & Community Programme in 1994 to increase awareness and involvement in the Festival itself and, by so doing, provide greater artistic appreciation and enjoyment of the arts for all. Through an ongoing year-round programme, we bring an exciting educational resource into the immediate community, often complementing work already being done in schools and community groups.

The Festival recognises that the arts have a vital role to play in education and we see our contribution to the artistic education of children as an essential element of our vision for the future. Inspiring children and young people to enjoy the arts and make music is something that will last them a lifetime. Our proactive policy of involving all sections in the community results in district-wide projects, enabling as broad a base of people as possible to participate in the Festival. Projects have taken place in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and the rural outlying districts of Pateley Bridge, Boroughbridge, and Masham. As a professional arts provider, the Festival is an invaluable community resource which has a committed and symbiotic relationship with its audience. The multi-arts programming of the Festival allows us to undertake projects in a variety of artforms, and in combined arts.
