Putting the class into classical
Start the summer in style with the stars of classical music: Lesley Garrett, Julian Lloyd Webber and Emma Johnson star in our Celebrity Gala Festival Concert – Friday 16 July, 8pm. Royal Hall.
These three colossal talents will be sharing one stage in celebration of the Festival’s 45-year history of providing a platform to the musical stars of the future – all three appeared in Harrogate as Young Musicians.
He’s probably one of the greatest living pianists in the world, and he’ll be in Harrogate for his only UK date in 2010. The great Arcadi Volodos is one you won’t want to miss, on Sunday 31 July, 8pm at the Royal Hall.
Family fun
The sell-out Edinburgh Festival show, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is bound to be popular on Saturday 17 July, 8pm. Harrogate Theatre. An evening of guaranteed hilarity from the cast who makes up the show with a little help from the audience, Whose Line is it Anyway style!
Pack a picnic and feast on thespian frolics in the beautiful grounds of Harlow Carr and join the Oddsocks Production: A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 July, 7.30pm RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. For some fun, relaxed family open-air theatre, what better way to spend an enchanting midsummer evening?
Contemporary acts
Don’t miss the chance to hear Sir Willard White on Thursday 22 July, 8pm at the Royal Hall. Surrender to White’s powerful baritone bass voice as he explores the soulful life and sounds of the legendary Paul Robeson.
There’s a chance to be involved in a historic World Premiere of a piano work commissioned especially by the Festival from composer Alex Wilson – a piece that could gain international importance. Don’t miss this electrifying experience on Monday 26 July, 11am at the Royal Hall.
Alan Bennett
He’s been described as “our Mozart of the mundane, our Picasso of the prosaic.” Britain’s best-loved writer Alan Bennett will be sharing a stage with young pianist Alessandro Taverna on Sunday 25 July, 8pm in the Royal Hall.
