Schumann - Waldszenen Op.82
Chopin – Sonata No.3 in B minor Op.58
Ravel – Gaspard de la Nuit
Prokofiev – Sonata No.7 in B flat Op.83
Portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro shot to fame in 1990 when he won first prize in the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition and is renowned throughout the world for his lyrical poeticism and outstanding virtuosity. The programme covers a vast range of styles and emotions, but perhaps the highlight is the inclusion of Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit – often called the most technically difficult and virtuosic pieces in the repertoire. Expect fireworks from one of the best pianists of the younger generation – if not any generation.
