Courtney Pine

Presents Transition in Tradition

Sun 18 July  |  Royal Hall  |  8pm

At the forefront of the UK jazz scene, award-winning saxophonist Courtney Pine has gained huge critical acclaim. In Transition in Tradition Pine assembles a heavyweight musical line-up drawing influences from Africa, the Caribbean, South America and Europe for an exuberant homage to the first great saxophone star: Sidney Bechet.  With bass clarinet, harmonium and mandolin in the mix, plus an ever- evolving groove – from old school swing to Creole stomp – Pine serves up a rich gumbo of jazz flavours.

Courtney Pine was voted Best British Saxophonist at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Awards in 2007 and winner of Best Jazz Act at the Urban Music Awards.
