A Seminar on Festivals & Events in Outdoor Spaces

Over 50 delegates from around Yorkshire attended a practical and interactive event for anyone and everyone involved in, or has ever wanted to put on a festival or event in a town or rural settings.

Workshop Activities
HIF lined up leading UK and international festivals & events sector professionals, for a day of interactive workshops, presentations and panel sessions covering a host of key issues & topics including:

  • Getting your event off the starting block
  • What Event licensing and legal requirements do we need?
  • What do we need to know about Health & Safety?
  • Event Production – top tips for to running your event
  • How do I go about producing an Event Checklist?
  • How and Why to carry out audience research
  • Financing Your Event – successful fundraising ideas for sustainable events & festivals

Speakers Included:

Colm Croffy: Operations Director of the Association of Irish Festivals and Events. He is also Director of the Great October Fair of Ballinasloe, in Galway part of a Ireland’s dynamic festivals & events world where many highly successful events take place in rural locations. In his interactive workshop, Colm Croffy will explore some novel & proven ways in which to grow independent income from your stakeholders, especially partnering with your business community.

Richard Agar: Managing Director, Bravura Arts. The North of England’s leading outdoor festivals & creative events production company. Richard will offer his knowledge on the key cornerstone of producing a successful and safe outdoor event

Gareth Bentley: Licensing Officer Harrogate Borough Council. An update and Q&As session on the current legislation and requirements for licensing events in outdoor spaces

Dr Phil Long: Centre for Tourism & Cultural Change Leeds Metropolitan University. This session outlines practical ways to research festival audiences that can be used promote your event. There will also be an open discussion of festival organisers’ development needs and how these may be met.
