Formed in 2003 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the Barbirolli Quartet brings together a wealth of experience, its members each having performed widely in their native countries of Canada, Wales, Australia and New Zealand before coming to England to continue their studies.

The Barbirolli Quartet were selected for the prestigious 2008 Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme and are 2008 Tunnell Trust winners. Upcoming engagements include their Wigmore Hall debut, The Chelsea Festival, Cheltenham Music Festival, St David’s Hall Cardiff, Manchester Mid-Day in Bridgewater Hall, St James’s Piccadilly and St John’s, Smith Square.

Sa Dingding

Recently signed to Universal Records and winner of a coveted 2008 BBC Award for World Music, China’s next big export Sa Dingding comes to Harrogate for one of only three UK shows this summer.

Already hailed as the oriental equivalent of stars including the ethereal Enya and the fiery Icelandic chanteuse Björk, Sa Dingding fuses Chinese folk melodies played on zheng, bamboo flute and ma tou qin (fiddle) with electric guitars and digital beats. Taking her inspiration from the traditional east and modern west, expect to hear influences of seminal trip hoppers Massive Attack one moment and chanting monks the next.

In this spectacular show promising traditional dancers and kung fu monks, don’t miss this impressive addition to the ranks of world divas.
