Noriko Ogawa was awarded 3rd prize in the 1987 Leeds International Piano Competition and has since gained a devoted following. She has achieved renown in Europe, America and in her native country Japan, where she is a national celebrity.  Her stellar career includes performances with the BBC as both soloist and recitalist, and recent collaborations include an exciting partnership with percussionist Evelyn Glennie.  She has performed with many leading conductors including Yan Pascal Tortelier, Libor Pesek and Leonard Slatkin and is now a regular adjudicator for the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.

Noriko is a keen supporter of new music and will be performing a work written especially for her by upcoming composer, Dai Fujikura. Returning takes traditional Japanese music influences, creating an ideal sound world for Ogawa’s unique playing.  Fujikura’s
new work is complemented by the astounding virtuosity of the Études by Debussy and arguably Liszt’s greatest piano work, the Sonata in B minor. All this promises a welcome return to Harrogate for the much loved Ogawa.
